Many students understand English but still sound unnatural.
Why?
Because they translate directly from their native language.
Below are mistakes almost every learner makes.
1. “I did a mistake”
❌ Wrong
I did a mistake
✅ Correct
I made a mistake
We use make, not do, for errors.
2. “I am having two brothers”
❌ Wrong
I am having two brothers
✅ Correct
I have two brothers
“Having” sounds temporary. Family is permanent.
3. “He only came yesterday”
❌ Wrong meaning (sounds emotional)
He only came yesterday
✅ Better
He came yesterday
“Only” changes the tone completely.
4. “Discuss about”
❌ Wrong
We discussed about the topic
✅ Correct
We discussed the topic
Discuss already includes “about”.
5. “Return back”
❌ Wrong
I will return back home
✅ Correct
I will return home
Return already means back.
6. “Revert back”
❌ Wrong
I will revert back
✅ Correct
I will reply
Revert means go back to previous state — not reply.
7. “Myself Rahul”
❌ Wrong
Myself Rahul
✅ Correct
I am Rahul
Use complete sentences in introductions.
8. “Today morning”
❌ Wrong
Today morning I woke early
✅ Correct
This morning I woke early
9. “More better”
❌ Wrong
This is more better
✅ Correct
This is better
Better already means more good.
10. “He is knowing”
❌ Wrong
He is knowing the answer
✅ Correct
He knows the answer
We don’t use continuous tense with mental verbs.
Final Tip
Stop translating sentences.
Instead ask:
“Would a native speaker say this?”
Fluency improves when sentences feel natural — not when grammar feels perfect.
